With Malaysia’s third lockdown to battle the COVID-19 pandemic, our lives as we know it are thrust yet again back into the online realm. Students across the nation are having to adjust into the lifestyle of learning online and being away from physical classrooms. This can be a challenging time of adjustment for many students but here at Lil Faculty, we are making every effort to ease those adjustments for your children. Without knowing when the COVID-19 pandemic will ease for Malaysians, it is an inescapable truth that online learning will be the main mode of education for the near foreseeable future.

However, eLearning is also a great benefit towards the learning process of young students today. Through online learning, students are given the comfort and space to grow and adapt their own learning styles.

Here are 5 benefits and ways Lil Faculty optimises eLearning for our students:

1. Time Conserving

eLearning allows both teachers and students to save time when attending classes. Students are no longer required to travel or spend time commuting to school and parents will be able to avoid the stress that comes with arranging transport for kids. Instead, students will be able to participate in classes from their homes and spend more time focused on their studies. On top of that, students will have more time on their hands to explore hobbies and spend quality time with family, as well.

With saving on time for travel and assembling of students, Lil Faculty sessions can seem shorter than in-person classes. But most of our classes retain the same length of time as was kept when students learned in our classrooms, with the exception of shorter sessions for our younger learners.

2. Creative class structure

Teachers constantly face the challenges of finding exciting ways to deliver educational content to their students. While Lil Faculty has been thriving with interactive and stimulating learning activities in our physical classes, the new learning platform gives teachers just as many creative opportunities to engage students with the excitement of learning. Sessions will be taught with colourful presentation slides with moving graphics that can keep students engaged and interested in the learning materials. Not only that, but other online learning tools like Kahoot! create interactive quizzes in a game-like format, making learning extra fun.

Furthermore, it is a lot easier for teachers to observe how receptive students are towards the content presentation based on participation and interactions during the classes. Lil Faculty stays constantly connected to what teaching methods are most conducive and effective for our young learners through these close observations.

3. Enhances digital literacy

Virtual learning is a powerful tool to equip students with digital literacy skills. The online world is inescapable and children will eventually grow to be exposed to the internet. It is crucial, now more than ever, that young minds have the safe spaces necessary to learn digital navigation and learn to associate their digital experiences to education and other positive factors. A tool is only as powerful as the way you’ve learned to use it.

We want to give your children the best online learning experience while becoming familiar with their online identities and allow for exploration of what the digital world means to them.

4. Better management of focus

Transitioning from a saturation of stimulation in physical classes into online learning is a large contrasting difference, but it just needs a little bit of adjustment. Learning from home is a great opportunity for young children to learn the management and regulation of their attention span. Some of the best ways to help kids through this transition is helping them find a space in the house that they can specifically associate with studying and not playing or relaxing and sleeping. A room or corner they use only for class sessions can help them regulate their focus independently over time. Another great way to help kids realign their focus is to take small break activities to give them an extra boost of stimulation that they need to avoid derailing during class sessions

Over time, students will be able to tell when they need to regulate their mood and focus and can manage the attention given during their class sessions. Teachers can then be more interactive with students and encourage them to share ideas and boost overall participation and motivation in each class. Teachers will also be able to check in more attentively with each student to ensure that they fully understand topics.

5. Removes social barriers

According to Faculty Focus, extroverted learners are best “energized by external sources, such as people, activities, and objects.” However, sources of stimulation for introverted learners are “internal ones such as ideas, impressions, and emotions.” Online classes provide space for more introverted students to observe and process their thoughts, giving them a chance to participate more enthusiastically with the class.

eLearning can become the perfect middle ground for both extroverted learners to continue thriving and introverted learners to experience more accessible participation. Participating in online classes provides students with healthy and safe space for everyone to be equals. It also brings about a better mix of ideas shared in class, giving students the chance to learn a lot more from each other.

Virtual learning can be a scary thing to adjust to for young students, but its benefits and outcomes are certainly the rewarding light at the end of a tunnel. With time flexibility and creative class designs, it goes without saying that eLearning is truly reinventing what we understand education to be. Students being able to learn so much more than the syllabus through online learning also proves to give them a huge advantage in maturing into positive and good-minded individuals. We want children to have the best online learning experience they can get at Lil Faculty and we cannot wait to see our young bright minds flourish through this education platform.
